Northfield Police Report
June 30
1:02 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen came to the police department requesting assistance with notifing a certain person not to be at their property. A Notice against trespass form was completed. The defendant was served and given a copy.
1:05 p.m. - Theft - An officer took a theft complaint in reference to a Burglary that happened sometime after 06-17- 10 at an apartment on 12a. Victims were asked to complete written statements detailing description of missing property. The officers are investigating.
8:28 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - The department was advised by VSP dispatch of a communication problem at a Water Street apartment. The officer met with the complainants regarding a vehicle that was repeatedly driving around the area and shouting obscenities. The vehicle was located and the operator was issued a civil ticket for violation of the noise ordinance.
8:46 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Barre City Police requested assistance. The officer needed a citation issued to a Northfield resident. The citation was served.
July 1
1:36 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - An officer was advised of a vehicle with NY license plates being operated by a young male that appeared intoxicated. The officer located the vehicle. Upon speaking with the operator the officer could smell alcohol. He refused to give his BAC.The officer explained the consequences of a
refusal. The operator continued to deny drinking and refused to take a PBT. The officer issued him a 21C ticket as he was under 21 years of age.
8:27 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A staff member from The Veterans Place concerning a resident who was missing, upon further investigation it was determined that the resident had just left the program and had left a note saying he was leaving and to turn over his property to his family who was planning on visiting him over the weekend.
11:59 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The department received a call that there would be a drug deal. The officer responded to monitor the area.
4:56 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police responded to a report of 2 dogs attacking a rabbit in a cage. Upon arrival police were advised that the rabbit was dead and may have had a heart attack as a result of the dog attack. All parties were contacted and the issue was resolved.
6:54 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - A woman called to report harassing phone calls, with someone alleging to be an officer leaving obscene messages on her cell phone. An officer listened to the messages, and said it sounded like a young child. The officer told the woman to say, if called back, that the calls had been reported to the police. The officer will be following up to ensure the calls had stopped.
July 2
11:04 a.m. - Theft - Police responded to a residence in order to take a report concerning a larceny of a large, plastic, sports equipment container to include sports equipment. Total estimate is $500.00 to include cost of the plastic container and sports equipment.
1:45 p.m. - Theft - Police spoke with a complainant concerning the theft of bridge building equipment that had been stored upon property on the Little Northfield Road. Subject reports I beams and other items missing and was last seen in the Fall-2009.
3:26 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - An officer spoke with a subject concerning calls his home phone. Subject advised that they were asking for private information that he did not give them and further advised that they kept calling. Advised CW that they could get caller ID so they know who is calling or they can get a trap for their phone and trap the number. I advised that at this point no crime had happened yet, but encouraged him to consider the caller ID.
6:31 p.m. - Animal Problem - A female stopped by to report that she had been bitten by a dog on West Hill Road at her mother's house. The female was advised to seek treatment at CVMC and I went to the area on West Hill. There was no such address, so Berlin PD was contacted to see if the complainant meant West Hill Road in Berlin. She did, so the incident was transferred to the responsible agency. No further action by this officer necessary.
6:34 p.m. - Fireworks - A complaint was made about fireworks being shot off at the playground at Dogwood Glen. An officer responded and heard no fireworks. He spoke with people in the area who denied shooting off fireworks. The officer cautioned those present about having to return. No further action was needed.
July 3
12:15 a.m. . DLS - Julius Barry Veal, 56, of Northfield was arrested for violations of conditions of release, clocked at 50 in a 35 mile zone, the defendant was found to be driving with a suspended license and was in violation of two conditions of a furlough including a curfew violation and order not to be driving. He was lodged in Barre City jail at the request of FSU and will be cited into court at the end of July.
9:03 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A caller advised that her boyfriend was missing. Information was gathered and the male was located. He had left the area without advising his friends. All was ok.
1:23 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - A complainant saw a young boy on the side of Rt. 12 with no adult present. He stopped and called the police. After a few minutes the child's grandmother found the boy with the complainant and took him home. The officer responded to the home. She advised that the boy had been playing outside when he wandered down to the street without her knowledge. All was ok.
2:35 p.m. - Accident PI - The department was advised of a two car crash on VT RT 12 N in the area of the Rustic Restaurant. One vehicle had been driven into the back of another vehicle when it was slowed for a dog in the road. Three people were transported by ambulance to CVH for observation. Both vehicles
sustained damage. Crash report completed.
9:41 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Michael Bell age 32 of Northfield was arrested for violating his conditions of release, unlawful mischief, and Simple Assault. An Officer was requested to respond to an address on Cemetery Street for the report of vandalism. Upon arrival the officer spoke with a male who advised Bell was at a neighbor's residence and began threatening him. He advised Bell then came over to the house. He advised he warned Bell to leave.
10:29 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer responded to Water Street, for the report of suspicious activity. Dispatch advised the complainant reported seeing a red jeep, at the t-shirt business and someone was sawing off the catalytic converter from a delivery truck parked at the building. Under investigation.
11:21 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to a two vehicle crash on North Main Street. Both vehicles had been moved. There was no injury and minor damages. A crash report was completed.
July 4
12:21 a.m. - Juvenile Problem - An officer was dispatched to a report of an out of control teenage. When the officer arrived he met with the parent and the teen. The officer offered resources that could be utilized for the situations.
2:33 a.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer was requested by the Northfield Ambulance service to respond to a 911 call with them The caller had reported being struck in the head and the officer was needed to investigate the reported assault. The patient was transported and checked out. The incident is being investigated.
10:24 a.m. - Theft - The department was advised of a gas drive off. The description of the vehicle was passed on to the area departments. The vehicle was from Quebec and suspected to be headed North on I89. The officer will follow up with the registered owner.
3:07 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – The department was notified of damage that had been caused to her vehicle while it was parked at her residence. Witnesses are being contacted. Under investigation.
July 5
2:24 a.m. - MV Complaint - A resident of North Main Street called to report a suspicious Jeep travelling around the North Main Street area, going back and forth. The Jeep was located and the operator was advised of the complaint. No Criminal activity was detected.
8:37 a.m. - Animal Noise - The department was advised of a barking dog on Kent Street. At the time of the call the dog was not heard. The officer did contact the dog owner and advise them of the complaint. They thought maybe the offender was the dog they hear on Slate Avenue. All complainants were urged to call when they hear the dog barking.
July 6
2:28 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Wayne F. Dion age 22 of Northfield, VT was arrested for DUI. Officers responded to a family disturbance call at a residence on McDermott Drive. Upon arrival the officer spoke with family members who advised Wayne had returned home very drunk and was causing problems. Wayne admitted to driving the vehicle home and to consuming alcohol. HE performed some of the standardized field sobriety exercises, but then said he was too drunk to do them. He was transported to the Northfield Police Station and processed for DUI. He submitted a sample of his breath as evidence which indicated a result of 0.098% BAC. Wayne was released to his father with a citation to appear in Washington District Court on Thursday July 22, 2010 for arraignment.
11:21 a.m. - Agency Assistance - A DCF worker contacted this officer concerning a possible living situation that could be endangering a child. The worker was going to make a visit and asked for the officer to go with her. She was detained and the officer was responding to calls when she did get to Northfield. The officer did not go to the residence with DCF.
11:52 a.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer was requested to stand by while some property was removed from a residence. The property owner could not go to the residence per court order and thus needed the officer to assist. Service provided.
12:28 p.m. - MV Complaint - The department received a report of a vehicle off the road and in the ditch on Berlin Pond Road. The officer responded and stood by while a wrecker pulled the vehicle out of the ditch. The operator of the vehicle and the owner of the vehicle were both issued traffic violations. No one was injured.
2:34 p.m. - Burglary - The department was called by the complainant regarding a forced entry to his home. The officers responded and collected information. Under investigation.
3:11 p.m. - Controlled Substance Problem - An officer located an amount of marijuana at a private residence. The owner of the marijuana was cited into court for illegal possession. press release to follow.
3:15 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Officers were advised that someone was at a residence on Union Brook removing items though they had been asked to leave without the items. Both parties separated and waited for the officer to arrive. The officers responded and helped resolve the situation.
