Boys & Girls Club
TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS IRECENTLY had the opportunity to have a conversation with the new Boys & Girls Club Teen Center Director Hope Clark. I am happy to report that I came away very impressed.
During the conversation it quickly became apparent that she has a genuine compassion for the youth in Northfield. This coupled with an amazing background, skill set and strong ability to think critically will make her an asset to the community. I am happy to know that the amazing BGC Teen Center team of staff and volunteers, who I had the honor and privilege of working with, has a leader that can empower them to continue their excellent work.
Hope demonstrated to me a keen understanding of what it takes to run a teen center:
The willingness to take on the tough issues youth face today with confidence and determination.
The desire and skills to partner with other community leaders.
The passion to stand up and advocate for youth and families who have reached the end of their rope, even when it might be unpopular.
That the Club is more then a space, that it represents a way of thinking, a code of values and ethics for youth to live by. That it teaches accountability as well as social and civic responsibility.
And that being Director requires the unwavering commitment to provide a safe and fun environment that incorporates structure and flexibility. Something that Hope has in spades.
I continue to stay in contact and work with many Northfield youth and their families. From this I am happy to relay that I have heard many compliments from them regarding Hope.
During my 5 years as Unit Director, which included directing the Northfield BGC Teen Center I worked with and supported youth & families facing many heart wrenching challenges. I now have full confidence that our new Director is continuing this vital work.
Knowing Hope is at the helm and the youth and families I worked with are in sincere good hands gives me a great sense of peace.
Thank you Hope. You are without a doubt one of the good guys.
I also continue to support and strongly advocate for the outstanding work of the Boys & Girls Club of the White River Valley. The Northfield Unit of the Club will always hold a special place in my heart.
My very best to everyone in Northfield. I will always think of you as part of my family and Northfield as my hometown.
