Golf Notes From Northfield Country Club

Photo by Bill Croney, The Northfield News The Northfield Ladies League last Wednesday evening was a different sort of competition for the Northfield ladies. They hosted women golfers from the Montpelier Country Club in the twosome, best ball, Ladies’ Montpelier Exchange. Home cookin’ wasn’t really kind to the Northfield golfers as the top two finishing teams were from the Capital City, Northfield bounced back, however and took spots two thru five.

The winning Montpelier twosome of Judy Ribolini and Meredith Tredeau posted a score of 44 and they were followed up by their teammates Joan Metcalf and Geri Orton three strokes back at 47.

The top Northfield team of Kathy Ruel and Barbra Cormier finished third with a 51 score and they were followed up by Linda Bouffard and Wendy Rea, who shot a 52. Just one stroke in back of them, Northfield’s Carolyn Ix and Sandra Abascal finished up with a 53.

Northfield faired much better in the two “closest to the pin”

competitions during The Ladies’ Montpelier Exchange. Closest to the pin on the par three, 119 yard fourth hole was Northfield’s Linda Bouffard with a distance of 47 feet and her teammate Barbara Cormier was closest to the pin on the par 3, 174 yard, eighth hole when she put her drive

22 feet, five inches from the pin.

The men’s competition on Thursday night was a standard league event and when all the scores were recorded Team 1 was in first place for the third week in a row. The league’s top team battled with sixth place team 2. Individually the members of Team 1 won four of their six matches with Team 1’s top golfer, Ryan McDonald falling to Team 2’s top man, Scott Higgins by a score of 37-38 (net), while the number two men in each team battled it out with Team 1’s Brian Grenier topping Tony Mariano of team 2 by a score of 35-35 (net). Team 1’s John Wardle defeated team 2’s Bob Everingham 27-31 (net) and Michael Stone of Team

1 fell to Chris Rea of Team 2 37-36 (net). Team 1’s Tom Eliasen picked up a win with a 35 (net) when his opponent did not turn in his card.

And finally in the tean 1 vs Team 2 match Chancey Liese of team 1 outshot team 2’s Ray Boyce 32-41 (net).

Team 3 Jordan Sarracco 32 , Team 4 Guy Teschmacher 33, Team 5 Korey Delehanty 32, Team 6 Dylan Otis 32, team 7 Jeff Luckenbill 38, Team 8 Scott Wright 34.
