Northfield Police Report

July 7

5:41 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – A caller advised that there were two bicycles leaned against the guard rails on VT RT 12 S that looked suspicious. The officer responded and found no one in the area. The next day the bikes were still in the area, so the officers brought the bikes back to the department for safe keeping. Later in the day the department received a call from a potential owner who will be available to claim the bikes when they return home.

July 8

10:53 p.m. - Threatening - Police received a report from a female that Karri Benoir, age 18 of Graniteville VT was sending her threatening text messages from Graniteville. The female stated that she met up with Benoir at Thunder Road and when she was unable to give Benoir a ride home, Benoir got mad and sent her text messages threatening to cut her throat. Benoir was cited for disorderly conduct by electronic device and assault by intimidation. Benoir is cited to appear in the Washington County District Court on 8-19-10 at 12:00 pm to answer the charges.

July 9

12:01 a.m. - Found Property - Another bike was located on VT RT 12A. This third bike is being held at the Northfield Police Department until the owners return to claim the stolen bicycles... On 07/12/10 the owners of the three bikes did identify the bicycles that had been reported missing from their garage.

July 10

9:52 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - The department was advised of a loud verbal dispute. The officer responded to the area and advised the offenders of the complaint. There was nothing physical. The parties were separating for the evening.

10:42 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - Officers responded to Union Street for the report of a noise complaint. A small gathering of young people were located by following the loud voices that could be heard. The tenants of the apartment were given warnings for the noise complaint. All of the group were asked for ID's and three attendees were instructed to contact the Teen Alcohol Safety Program for underage consumption of alcohol.

July 11

12:10 a.m. - Custodial Dispute - An officer was advised that the caller was expecting to have her child brought to her for a scheduled visit time and the father of the child was not doing so. After contacting the father, it was determined that there was confusion as to who had the visitation for the weekend. The matter will have to be resolved in family court.

2:43 p.m. - Dead Body - An officer received a call reporting that an older male was walking on Vt Rt S yelling vulgarities and obscenities. The walker was reportedly stumbling and then falling over the guard rail and down the embankment. EMS was being toned as the officer was enroute. The male was located on the rocks in the river. Resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Under investigation.

4:33 p.m. - Litter/Pollution/Public Health – An officer took a report from a landlord of an apartment on Pearl Street. The complainant stated that an ex-tenant was continuing to use a dumpster provided for the tenants.

7:59 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - An officer responded to a report of vandalism on Pleasant Street. The complainant/victim had parked in the driveway. A short time later the caller had attempted to leave in the vehicle and noticed that the tire was flat. After inspecting the tire, a cut/slash to the tire's sidewall was located. The officer is investigating.

11:49 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - An officer was dispatched to a report of a physical family fight. The report was that a male and female were fighting outside and another male was trying to break them up. When the officer arrived, there was no one outside. Then a female came outside and was questioned about the report. She advised that nothing was happening, she was looking for her dog. The= officer checked the area and found no one else.

July 12

10 a.m. - Theft - A caller reported that her daughter was missing her iPod. The iPod had been left in the vehicle while parked in a public area. Later, when wanting to use the item it could not be located. Under investigation.

11:21 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – The complainant reported that he had damage to his vehicle that he did not know when or where it happened. The incident is being reported for insurance purpose only.

1:59 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The complainant came to the Police Department to report a suspicious circumstance. His Social Security card was missing from his residence. His roommate was away for the weekend as well. His residence had been locked while he was away and there was no evidence of entry. The complainant was advised to contact the Social Security office.

3:59 p.m. - Found Property - A bicycle was left at the Northfield Police Department. It is unknown where the bicycle had been found, but it was taken in and placed in the garage for safekeeping until it could be identified by its potential owner.

5:42 p.m. - Theft - A report was taken from a citizen on Rabbit Hollow Road. The complainant was reporting an item missing from their property after they had extensively searched for the small 4x4 vehicle. Under investigation.

10:40 p.m. - Agency Assistance – An officer assisted the Montpelier Police in transporting a female from the scene of a crash to her residence on South Main Street. Assistance was provided without incident.

July 13

8:05 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - An employee of the Town of Northfield Highway Department reported that several vehicles had torn up the grounds at the pool again. He reported that it appeared that two 4 X 4's, and one 2 wheel drive car, had driven up the bank by the pool and torn up the grass. If anyone is aware of who is creating this expense for the village, please call the police.

2:41 p.m. - Training Police conducted an oleoresin capsicum (O.C.) certification course for law enforcement officers. At the completion of the course the enrolled officres were certified in the proper usage, deployment and decontamination of O.C.

5:36 p.m. - Found Property - The department was notified by Norwich Security of a radio that had been found on the campus. Unknown whose radio it is. The radio can be claimed by proper identification.
