Hello From Hollywood!
Hundreds of fans gathered at four locations Capitol Records, Egyptian Theatre, the Hollywood & Highland Center and Montalban Theatre that showcased the five categories of stars -- motion pictures, television, recording, radio and live theatre.
For music lovers, touring the landmark Capitol Records Tower, built in 1956 and located near the famous intersection of Hollywood and Vine, meant a thrill of a lifetime to enter the legendary recording Studio A where Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and many other artists created multi-million selling records. Just outside the Tower that resembles a stack of 45s with a stylus needle n top, are “stars” belonging to music icons Tina Turner, Garth Brooks and three of the Beatles. Despite the heat and long queue, it was worth the wait.
Down the street on Vine, music fans also gathered at the (Ricardo) Montalban Theatre for the posthumous star induction ceremony honoring the late jazz trumpeter Louis Prima known for his bigband performances of “Just a Gigolo” and “Jump, Jive and Wail.” Prima’s son, Louis Jr., was present and performed with his band, The Witnesses. The Montalban later screened “Remembering Ricardo,” a short documentary film about life and career of the late actor.
The historic Grauman’s Chinese Theatre hosted the premiere of the upcoming film “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.” Its stars Christina Applegate, James Marsden and Chris O’ Donnell hit the red carpet, talking to the worldwide media and taking pictures with young fans.
Even though many actual living stars weren’t to be found on the Walk, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the iconic attraction, is planning a star-studded event in November of this year, commemorating the Walk’s 1960 dedication.
While the four most photographed stars on the Walk honor Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Johnny Depp, they have already been joined in 2010 by Andrea Bocelli, Mel Brooks, Russell Crowe, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Dennis Hopper, Alan Jackson, Ben Kinsley, Ringo Starr, and even Shrek (who joins other famous characters Kermit the Frog and Snow White). The party continues with a star ceremony for Oscar-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg (“The Departed”) on July 29, 2010 – the 2414th.
