Aug. 1: Sunday morning, three health-related specials for people of all ages are scheduled. At 6 a.m., “Easy Yoga for Arthritis With Peggy Cappy” offers exercises that can provide relief. At 7 a.m., “Jack LaLanne’s Forever Young” features the fitness icon demonstrating that it’s never too late to start feeling and looking better. At 8:30 a.m., VPT encores “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body” with Dr. Daniel Amen. He shares 10 steps to live longer and look younger.
At noon, Vermont Public Television presents “Lower Your Taxes! Now and Forever With Ed Slott.” The financial planning expert has some new ideas to offer.
At 5:30 p.m., “Marvin Hamlisch Presents: The ‘70s, the Way We Were,” assembles an array of stars, including BJ Thomas, Three Dog Night and Jonathan Edwards to perform their hits.
At 9 p.m., in a never-beforeseen concert, “Wolfgang’s Vault Presents Day on the Green 1977” features Peter Frampton with “Show Me the Way” and more. Lynyrd Skynyrd performs “Free Bird” and other hits.
Aug. 2: Monday at 7:30 p.m. on Vermont Public Television’s “Profile,” Fran Stoddard interviews Quebec author Louise Penny, who began writing mysteries after an impressive journalistic career with the CBC.
At 8 p.m., a 9-year-old pianist, composer and entertainer makes his PBS concert debut on “Ethan Bortnick and His Musical Time Machine.” Joining him are Gloria Gaynor, Arturo Sandoval and others.
Aug. 3: Tuesday at 8 p.m., “Clay Aiken: Tried and True” features the “American Idol” finalist performing great romantic hits. Ruben Studdard and Linda Eder join him.
At 9:30 p.m., “Sinatra at Carnegie Hall” recalls Frank Sinatra’s 1980 two-week engagement at Carnegie Hall, with greatest hits from his shows.
Aug. 4: Wednesday at 8 p.m., “Magic Moments: The Best of ‘50s Pop” returns, with performances and archival footage of pop icons Patti Page, Perry Como, Debbie Reynolds and others.
At 10 p.m. on “Nikki Yanofsky Live in Montreal,” the 16-yearold singing sensation presents her distinctive blend of jazz, pop and original songs at Salle Pierre Mercure in her home town.
Aug. 5: Thursday at 8 p.m., Vermont Public Television encores its documentary “In Days Gone By: Vermont Country Ways.” It recalls life in the first part of the 20th century, weaving together archival images and interviews with Vermonters who lived in the days before automobiles and electricity.
At 9 :30 p.m., “Visions of Italy: Northern Style” includes breathtaking views of Siena, Florence, Venice, the Alps and more.
Aug. 6: Friday at 10 p.m., “P.O.V.” presents “The Way We Get By,” a touching film about a group of senior citizens who are on call 24 hours a day to greet American troops at a small airport in Bangor, Maine. The film also airs Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 7:30 p.m. on the VPT World channel.
Aug. 7: Saturday at 7 p.m., Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer reprise their roles in a beloved Britcom for the “As Time Goes By Reunion Special.” The story picks up where the original series left off, revealing Jean’s longing for grandchildren, much to her husband Lionel’s dismay.
