Northfield Police Report

July 14

12:34 a.m. - Alcohol Offense - The department received information regarding an underage drinking party at an apartment on Vine Street. A Berlin officer was contacted to assist. After interrupting the party and identifying the attendees three people were referred to the Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Program.

12:38 p.m. - Agency Assistance – An officer cited a Northfield resident at the request of a Barre City Police Department. Agency Assist completed.

2:11 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer responded to 275 wall Street for a report of a window wide open and no one around. The officer responded to the scene and found an open window. The window was broken and the apartment could not be secured. The landlord was contacted and advised.

2:36 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to a report of a man down. While in route, was advised that the subject who was down had got into a truck and left the area. The officer located subject who advised that he was OK did not need an ambulance and was not injured. Subject advised that he slipped and had fallen down. It should be noted at the time the weather consisted of heavy down pour rain and much pooling of water in the area. Ambulance advised to CX.

July 15

12:17 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer was advised of a suspicious behavior at the Falls Trailer Park. Upon arrival the officer talked with everyone suspected involved and found all to be okay. Nothing further.

3:40 a.m. - Animal Problem - An officer received a complaint of a sick raccoon on Wall Street near Pleasant Street. He located the animal, and it was stumbling around and falling down. The officer dispatched the animal.

9 a.m. - Citizen Assist - A complaint was taken from a resident of Northfield regarding harassing text messages and unwanted vists. The complainant was advised on how to update the existing court order regarding visits and the officer contacted the sender of the test messages to advise of the consequences if the messages continue.

12:51 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A caller advised she keeps getting unwanted phone calls regarding money that she has reportedly won. The officer advised her options on handling the situation and agreed that something that sounds too good to be true, usually isn't.

2:30 p.m. - Threatening - An officer took a report of unwanted text messages and threatening messages. Under investigation.

6:34 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to Norwich University for a report of an accident in the parking lot next the the Wise Center. The complainant advised that someone had hit his front fender and corner panel and left the area. I estimated the damages to be under a thousand.

7:53 p.m. - Threatening - Police responded to Pleasant Street for a report of a continuation of an assault that had occurred earlier in the evening. The male party fled as police arrived. The male party was later apprehended at the residence when police were searching for him.

7:58 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - Phillip S. Amell, age 30 of Northfield Vermont was arrested for domestic assault and for violating an abuse prevention order. Amell physically assaulted his live in girlfriend causing her minor injury. Amell fled the premise and returned twice in the night only to run when police arrived. Amell was located sleeping in the basement of the apartment building where he resides after police searched for him through out the night.

July 16

1:53 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer responded to North Main street for a report of someone banging on residence windows. Police searched the area but did not locate anyone in the area. This has been an ongoing issue in this area.

4:32 a.m. - Accident PD - Jennifer R. Mayotte, age 35 of Northfield Vermont was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police responded to a reported one vehicle accident on Rte. 12 South and located The operator and her vehicle in a ditch. Mayotte stated that she swerved to avoid a deer and went off the road. Police detected a moderate odor of intoxicants emitting from Mayotte's breath. Mayotte performed the sobriety

6:27 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted Northfield Fire Department with a fuel spill on VT Rte. 12A near 1364 Vt Rte. 12A. A vehicle's fuel line broke and approximately 20 gallons of gasoline spilled out onto the ground and onto the property of 1364 VT Rte. 12A. Hazmat was notified and they will come out on Saturday to clean up the spill.

11:45 p.m. - Noise Disturbance – An officer responded to Slaughter House Road for a reported noise complaint. The complainant advised that there was a group of people camping along the sand bar and that they were making too much noise. Police located the group and advised them to turn the radio off which they did. No further action taken.

July 17

3:21 a.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to the top of VT Rte. 64 by request of the Vermont State Police to check on a broken down vehicle. North Main service arrived at the same time and the vehicle was removed. The operator stated that the vehicle overheated while he was traveling south on I-89 and then shut down. The defendant had an odor of intoxicant and sobriety exercises were performed. The defendant had a BAC of .014% at 03:50 hours.

6:10 a.m. - Missing Person - A report was received of a missing female. Her car had been found illegally parked in Montpelier. A Be On the Lookout was generated and aired to the surrounding agencies. About two hours later the complainant called to report that the missing person had been located and all was ok. BOL was cancelled.

1:05 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer was advised of a possible abduction. The caller reportedly had seen a female forcefully put into a vehicle by a male and then the vehicle was driven quickly away. As the officer was responding to the area the complainant advised that the vehicle had stopped. When the officer arrived the identified parties had a reasonable explanation of the situation and all was ok. The female was spoken to separately and was okay.

3:01 p.m. - Theft - Received a report of a gas drive off from South Village Mobil of $8.60. The license plate provided. No vehicle description was given. The vehicle left from South Village Mobil, and it left heading in an unknown direction. The officer contacted the registered owner and he assumed the gas was included in the other items that he had purchased. He contacted the Mobil station and paid for the

gas.

4:40 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer was contacted regarding two suspicious individuals that had tried to purchase alcohol without ID. The officer located the two visitors and talked with them. They had valid identifications and no warrants from their home states. They were waiting for a friend to pick them up and take them to the next stage of their journey.

8:03 p.m. - Burglary - An officer was dispatched to a report of a burglary. The caretakers of the residence had noticed a kicked in door. The owners were out of state and the complainant was there to mow the lawn. The owners contacted the officer a few days later to give a report of missing items. Under investigation.

9:49 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer responded to the South Village Mobile store for the report that the power had gone out right at closing. The clerk was unsure how to set the alarm without power, and was concerned locking up the store without power. I advised I would patrol the area for him.

10:46 p.m. - MV Complaint - An officer was dispatched to the report of a possible drunk

driver travelling west VT 64. An Off duty Officer called in the complaint. While in route I passed the vehicle travelling north on VT route 12. I initiated a traffic stop. The operator advised he had been blinded by the headlights of the truck behind him and could not see. He admitted to driving all over the road. VCVC issued.

10:52 p.m. - Noise Disturbance – An officer responded to Western Avenue for a noise complaint. Upon arrival the officer could hear the loud music. Contact was made with the tenant and a warning was issued for the noise.

11:58 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer responded to the report of an intoxicated male walking in the roadway on north Main Street in the area of North Main Service. Upon my arrival in the area of North Main Street, I canvassed the area, but was unable to locate anyone matching the description.

July 18

12:16 a.m. - MV Complaint - An officer was dispatched to a suspicious motor vehicle complaint on West Hill Road. The caller advised that a vehicle was parked in his driveway. The officer responded to the area, determined that road was closed due to a tree fallen across it. While talking= with the complainant he recognized the vehicle as a neighbors and decided that they had left the vehicle as they couldn't drive pass the tree.

12:53 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - An officer received information regarding a vehicle leaving an area store with a reportedly suspended operator. The officer made contact with the vehicle and determined that the operator was not the suspected suspended operator nor was the operator intoxicated.

11:18 a.m. - Citizen Assist - A resident of Union Brook Road came to the department looking for assistance. There were several trees on her property that had been knocked down by the storm and her phone service was out. The citizen came into the office and used the phone to contact her family and repair services.

11:53 a.m. - MV Complaint - A report was taken of a vehicle backing down the runaway truck ramp on Vt Rt 64. The officer arrived but did not locate any vehicle.

4:10 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - An officer was contacted by a resident from Pleasant Street regarding threatening phone messages that she was receiving on her cellular phone. The officer listened to the message. A subpoena will be sent to ATT for the phone records to determine the source of the call.

4:23 p.m. - Agency Assistance - The department was requested by Probation and Parole to respond with FSU to try to take into custody a subject that was on escape status. The subject has been reported to be in the area, but the Field Supervisory Units and the officer were unable to locate at this time.

July 19

1:52 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer received a call from Central New England Rail Road requesting a patrol of the Vine Street area. The Train engineer called to report some kids throwing a large heavy item at the train. I conducted an extensive foot patrol of the area, but could not locate anything suspicious.

4:32 a.m. - Animal Problem - A complainant came to the police station to file a complaint of animal abuse. Statements were taken and under investigation.

9 a.m. - Suspicious Person/Circumstance - A caller advised that he had heard gunshots during the night. He was calling to see if anyone else had heard the shots and reported them. The source of the noise was unknown. The caller was advised to call at the time of the noise so that the officer could respond to the area to determine the source.

10:05 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A caller reported that he found on his property some orange traffic cones and a bicycle. The officer was to collect the items and determine the owners.

10:28 a.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - An officer talked with a citizen that was receiving harassing text and phone messages. A statement was taken. Under investigation.

11:41 a.m. - Family Fight/Domestic – An officer responded to a reported domestic fight. The caller to 911 stated that the female of the residence had been argumentative and was destroying their property. The male caller was waiting outside when the police arrived. The male party was preparing to leave the property. The officer talked with all parties.

2:32 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - A caller advised that there had been vandalism to his property on Pleasant Street. The officer responded and met with the victim.

3:46 p.m. - MV Complaint - Officers responded to the report of an abandoned motor

vehicle parked along the edge of Bull Run Road. Officer's checked on the vehicle and after running the VIN determined the owner of the vehicle. Dispatch contacted them and left a message with them to contact the Northfield Police regarding the status of the vehicle.

7:09 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic – An officer received a call from a resident of Northfield. The caller advised that her son was drunk and verbally abusive. The officer responded to the residence and spoke with all parties. The mother was given options and resources to get help for her and her son.

10:44 p.m. - MV Complaint - An officer stopped at a local store. While inside the store the officer was approached by a citizen. While talking the officer was suspicious of the citizen's right to drive. When the officer returned to the cruiser he had dispatch verify the citizen's driving license. When confirmed that the operating privileges had been suspended, the officer advised

the citizen of such.

July 20

1:15 a.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer was requested to assist Berlin Police Department at a report of a fight on VT rt 12 in Berlin. The Northfield officer responded and helped with the interviews of the people on scene.

1:19 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to the area of Alpine Drive within the Town of Northfield and then headed North on Vt Rt 12 in search of a report of a vehicle operating erratically. No one was found to be at the

residence to which the vehicle was registered to and the vehicle was never found on Vt Rt 12 as reported by the Montpelier Police Department.

3:20 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer was requested to meet with the Property Manager at Dogwood Glen who advised that he had something suspicious the police needed to look at outside. The officer responded and found the suspicious plant. Under investigation.

8:24 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An offier was dispatched to Cox Brook Road for the report of suspicious activity. Dispatch advised the complainant was inside her residence and saw what she believed to be a young boy peeking at her from behind her barn. Before my arrival at the residence, the complainant had called back to advise there had been two boys, and both had left the area.

11:53 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer was dispatched to the report of a suspicious complaint at School Street. Dispatch advised the complainant was reporting a small red car and a male had exited the vehicle at his neighbor's. The caller did not now the car nor the male. When the officer arrived he was unable to locate the car, but had a good description to follow up, including the registration plate.
