Northfield Police Report

July 21

3:21 p.m. - Accident PD - The complainant came to the police department to report damage to her vehicle that had been parked at Chouinards. There was damage to the passenger side back door that she noticed today. Her car was washed on Sunday and was okay at that time. A report taken for insurance purpose.

4:27 p.m. - Animal Problem - The department received a call regarding the noise= from a barking dog. The officer responded to the area and did not locate the dog.

4:45 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – A call was received concerning controlled substance drugs. under investigation.

5:34 p.m. - Burglary - CW called police and reported that the key he leaves outside was bent and thinks someone may have been inside his house, nothing missing. Subject advised to get new key and change hiding location.

11:46 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer responded to Vt Rt 12a for a noise complaint. The officer met with the tenants and advised them of the complaint and requested that they quiet down. They were warned of a Noise violation fine. The tenants apologized and stated that it would be quiet now.

July 22

8:05 a.m. - Accident PD - An operator of a vehicle involved in an crash contacted the department. At approximately 6:40 that morning while backing out of a driveway, a vehicle that was being backed out of a driveway across the street had contacted with the callers vehicle. Information was exchanged and this report is for record purpose. There was damage to the caller's driver side back door and no injuries.

9:03 a.m. - Animal Problem - A citizen of Stony Brook Road came to the department with a stray dog that had been at his residence over night. The animal appeared to be shepard mix and weary from traveling. The citizen came to see if anyone was looking for the dog or to find him a new home. He was given a ride to the animal control officer's kennels by the citizen.

12:48 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - The department received a complaint regarding small children skate boarding on Demasi Street and Pleasant Street. The complainant was concerned regarding the safety of the small riders. They didn't appear to be observing traffic rules. As the complaint was driving his vehicle on Pleasant Street, the skate boarder came off Demasi Street onto Pleasant St without regard for oncoming traffic. The officer attempted to locate. GOA.

8:32 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer was requested to assist Berlin Unit on a motor vehicle stop. While in route, I was flagged down and advised

that a subject was hiding in a yard. I w as advised that she was involved in the incident and to attempt to locate her. We searched for her for approximately a half hour. We received calls of a suspicious person working their way north through yards along Rte 12 North. We did not locate her.

July 23

3:04 a.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer was requested to assist Berlin Police with someone throwing rocks at passing by vehicles. A trucker had recently been hit breaking his window and causing injury to his head. Berlin Police reported being hit with rocks and were attempting to locate the stone throwers. I responded down along with State Police and a Barre Town canine unit in an

attempt to locate the individuals.

12:38 p.m. - Theft - A resident of Northfield Falls advised that she thinks a neighbor is stealing items from her home and wants a Notice Against Trespass. The officer gave her forms to be prepared. Awaiting the return of the written statements.

8:15 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer responded to Depot Square for a report of a verbal confrontation between two male subjects. When the officer arrived, there was no argument and all the people sitting on the common stated that they did not witness any altercation.

July 24

1:05 a.m. - Angela S. Payette, age 27 of Northfield Vermont was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the the accident. Payette drove her vehicle of the West Hill Road and onto a lawn tearing up the lawn. Several witnesses stated that they came out to see what the noise was and were able to detect an odor of intoxicants emitting from Payette. While speaking with Payette, she admitted to them that she had been drinking. Police located Payette at her residence off of West Hill Road and while speaking with her police could smell a moderate odor of intoxicants emitting from her. Payette advised that she swerved to avoid an animal in the road. Payette refused to take the preliminary breath test and was taken into custody for DUI and leaving the scene of the accident. Payette was transported to the Northfield Police Department for processing and at 01:58 hours, Payette had an evidentiary test of .114% BAC. Payette was issued a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court on 8-12-10 at 12:00 pm to answer the charges.

12:38 p.m. - Public Speaking - Northfield Police Department took part in the annual Safety Day, held at the Northfield Fire Department on Wall Street. As part of the events, Northfield Police held a Child Safety ID station and collected old, unwanted medications during a 'Drug Drop.' Informative pamphlets were provided to those in attendance from the Governors Highway Safety Program.

Citizen Assist

4:58 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Officers were requested to assist Probation and Parole. The Field Supervisory Unit was attempting to locate a male subject that was on escape status. The information received had given a location where the subject was living, but when the officers arrived they were unable to locate.

5:25 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The complainant advised that while walking on Cox Brook a motor vehicle drove by him. At that time someone in the vehicle threw a bottle out of the vehicle which struck the complainant in the hip. Under investigation.

8:38 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A complainant stopped at the PD to file a statement that someone had jumped on the hood of his vehicle while it was parked on the side of the road, causing about $400 in damage. Photographs of the footprints were taken, and police are following up with possible suspects.

11:01 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - Police were dispatched to an argument between two brothers on Route 12A. Alcohol was involved. The situation was resolved by taking one brother to his mother's house for the rest of the evening.

July 25

9:25 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - While on patrol the officer observed a vehicle parked on Gould Road. The officer was unsure why a vehicle would be parked at the location and investigated. All was ok.

4:22 p.m. - Family Fight/Domestic - The department was advised of a domestic disturbance. The officer was told that it was verbal, nothing physical had occurred. Upon arrival the officer confirmed that there had been no physical contact. The parties involved had been upset about a family situation and were voicing their frustrations. The officer and other family members helped separate the disorderly subjects. Nothing further.

5:21 p.m. - Custodial Dispute - An officer met with a mother concerning custody and visitation situations with her ex partner regarding their children.

July 26

11:44 a.m. - Theft - A resident of Smith Hill Road called the department in reference from some items missing from his barn. The information was taken and the theft is under investigation.

6:02 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer responded to a report of a dispute regarding a property line. All parties were present and a the officer was a third party witness to the replacement of markers as a result of a recent survey.

8:13 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer was dispatched to a report of a citizen dispute. The complainant was concerned that another resident in the trailer park was yelling and harassing three young children at play. The officer met with the complainant and then talk with the offender. Suggestions for resolution were offered.

July 27

7:06 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - Advised by CW that a PORK sign in the shape of a PIG was on his front lawn, thinks it might have been stolen and placed on his lawn as a joke. Picked up PIG and found out it belongs to the United Church here in town. Property returned.

11:59 a.m. - MV Complaint - Assisted the Northfield Fire Department with a car fire at a residence on Vine Street.

5:34 p.m. - Accident PD - Responded to a reported one vehicle crash on the Cox Brook Road, advised no injuries, checked area and unable to locate any crash or sign of a crash. Closed

7:28 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer was dispatched to 12 Davis Avenue at the request of the Northfield Ambulance Service to assist with a

medical call.
