Ex Libris
The “Make a Splash at Your Library” summer reading program was a huge hit this year. Five programs were held at the library on the Thursdays in July. Fifty-six students in grades pre-K through 5 were registered to participate and 170 children and 86 adults altogether came to the five programs. In keeping with the theme, we explored some aspects of water. We investigated sinking and floating, made rain sticks, read books about water, listened to naturalist Steve Amos tell us about ocean creatures, made sailboats, and more. Art, science, and literature combined to make this both fun and educational for all. Most importantly, children listened to books being read and read books on their own. Teen and adult volunteers plus many parents helped the children with their activities.
The program came to a watery end on Thursday night with a “beach” party on the library lawn. Families celebrated a summer of reading with a water balloon toss, picnics, watermelon, beach balls and bubbles for all!

Next summer’s theme is “Cultures around the World” and we can already picture visiting far off places in our imaginations.
