Candidates Come to Northfield to Democratic Party Meetings

TO THE EDITOR: THE NORTHFIELD NEWS OVER THE PAST month, at three separate meetings, all 5 candidates for State Senate from Washington County have come to share their views. So too have candidates for Secretary of State and Matt Dunne for Governor. As a relatively new member of the Northfield community, I find it refreshing that candidates take the time to talk seriously with small groups of voters in small towns. These meetings should be covered by the Northfield News – as it is a tribute to both the candidates and the town that such meetings occur. The ideas shared during these meetings should be shared with the wider community.

One candidate for Senate even came twice: Anthony Pollina. Anthony is consistent in his advocacy of policies to buy locally and hire locally – thus supporting Vermont products and Vermont workers. As a person with a strong labor background, I am heartened by his emphasis on creating good jobs and serving the community at the same time – by building affordable housing and investing in energy efficiency. He advocates for a Vermont Credit Card that would support our local economy and a Vermont Investment Fund to invest in Vermont businesses. Like so many candidates he supports a single-payer health care system to relieve the budgets of citizens and businesses alike. He speaks clearly for the need to have a transparent budget process in Montpelier.

Personally, I would be honored to have Anthony Pollina as one of my representatives in the State House.
