NCC Golf Notes

The Northfield News

Last Tuesday’s Senior-Guest tournament at the Northfield Country Club was a two-person team, best ball event that has proved to be a popular format. The best ball format means that each person on a team hits their ball on each stroke and their next hit occurs at the most advantageous location the team achieved. This format helps scores and speeds up the game (usually). In the Northfield Member-guest event there are three “flights” of golfers (determined by handicaps), and the winning team of each flight is determined by the actual number of strokes that it took the team to complete nine holes (raw score). There are also winners in each flight after the players’ handicaps have been factored in (net score).

Jon Gregory and Mark Bean rolled to first place honors in the “First Flight” with a raw score of 70 and a net score of 60 for the nine-hole tournament while Mike Lavalley and Phil Robarge grabbed the second spot in the “First Flight” with a 73 raw score and a 58 net score.

Third place in the “First Flight” went to John Wardle and Bill Cecil who shot 76 raw and a 60 net.

The top spot in the “Second Flight” went to Dick Hayden and Dan Hudson who recorded scores of 77 and 61 for their raw and net scores respectively. Marcel Ruel and Mike Abascal took first net honors in the “Second Flight” with scores of 77 and 59 while Winston Rabidoux and Chris Veatch grabbed the second net spot in the “Second Flight” with a net of 82 and a raw score of 62.

The “Third Flight” title went to Rudy Mair and Pierre Grenier who shot a raw score of 79 and once the handicaps were figured in their net score was 58. The best net score in the “Third Flight” was a tie. An 85 raw and 60 net score was recorded by Al Prior and Fred Fisher , while the team of Tim McTigue and Deirdra Howard shot an identical 85/60 score.

The lone women’s team took part in the Senior-Guest tournament played in the “Third Flight” and Lucy McTigue and Judy Wheelock turned in a raw score of 103 with a net score of 68.
