Northfield Police Report
July 28
12:22 p.m. - Threatening An officer spoke with a complainant who was advocating for her daughter who was having problems with a friend and her mother. They were sending messages via Facebook and also phone text messages. Statements taken and contacted the other parties involved. Investigating.
4:44 p.m. - Agency Assistance - A mother of a victim of a LSA that happened on 7/27/10 in Berlin came to the department. She wanted a vehicle she had just seen parked in Northfield checked to see if it was the vehicle that had hit their vehicle. The officer responded to the area of the parked vehicle and talked with the registered owner. Pictures were taken and all information was forwarded to Berlin Police for the investigating officer.
5:22 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer responded to a possible domestic/trespass situation at D2 Dogwood Glen. This matter was called in by a third party living in Barre. After the officer talked with all the parties involved it was determined that there was a communication break down and a solution was found. Nothing further.
5:27 p.m. - Theft - The CW called concerning a larceny from her residence while she was away and had a friend house watching. The complainant completed a statement with items missing. Under investigation.
5:28 p.m. - Theft - A citizen requested the officers assistance regarding personal property that had been borrowed without permission. The officer took the report. The items were returned without incident.
9:32 p.m. - Found Property - A wallet was brought to the police department. The owner of the wallet was contacted and she picked it up.
July 29
12:20 a.m. - Noise Disturbance – An officer responded to Crescent Ave for a reported loud party at this residence. When I arrived, I observed a party going on and the stereo was turned up. I located the tenants of the apartment and advised them that the noise was too loud and that it was keeping the neighbors up. Both tenants received written warnings for the noise violation. I advised both that if I had to return that they would be receiving $150.00 fines for
9:02 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer spoke with the CW who had concerns about a phone call she had received at about 330 am this am 07-29-10 at her residence. The officer took the information and advised if anything else happened that was suspicious to contact the department at the time it was happening.
9:41 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - The department was notified of a vehicle that had been scratched with a thin object, like a key, while parked. The caller advised she had no suggestions for who might have damaged her 2010 Ford Escape. The estimate of damage is over $900.
10:33 a.m. - Theft - The CW called and reported that he rents on Central Street and sometime during the night a Jump House had been stolen. The house has a dog theme with a Dalmation and Puppy Land on it. If anyone has any information regarding this item, please call Northfield Police, 485-9181.
10:44 a.m. - Traffic Hazard - An officer responded to a reported traffic hazard near the intersection of Dole Hill Road on the Smith Farm Road and the vehicles may not be registered. The officer responded to the scene. Orange markers were in place to warn oncoming traffic and all vehicles had proper registrations. Messages were left on voice mail to insure vehicles were being moved before
sunset.
11:01 p.m. - Parking Problem - An officer received a complaint of a parking problem on Pleasant Street. The complainant advised that vehicles were parked on both sides of the street making it impossible for vehicle traffic to get through. I located the vehicle, a white Jeep Cherokee. A parking ticket was issued and the owner was located so that he could move the vehicle instead of having it towed.
11:40 p.m. - Noise Disturbance - An officer responded to Vine Street apt. for a drunk out of control male disturbing the residence. After a period of time, the subject settled down and he agreed to stay in his apartment and go to bed for the night.
July 30 1:49 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Jimmy Gwara, age 35, of Northfield was arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and for violating his conditions of release. On 7-29-10 at approximately 23:40 hours, Northfield Police were called to 16 Vine Street apt. # 6 for a drunk out of control male disturbing the residence. When police located Gwara, police observed that he had lacerations to his hands and to his head. Gwara was arguing with his fiancée Sarah Knowles and both parties were intoxicated. When police asked Gwara why he was bleeding from his head and hands he stated that he put his head through the windshield of his car. Police observed that the windshield was completely caved in. According to Knowles and another witness, Gwara jumped head first from the steps of the building into his windshield. Gwara and Knowles were intoxicated and arguing and Knowles left the apartment to get away from Gwara. After a period of time, police got Gwara to calm down and he agreed to go to bed without further incident. At approximately 01:49 hours police were called back to this residence for Gwara being out of control again. The complainant advised that Gwara was smashing items and yelling obscenities through her window and was blasting his music keeping everyone awake. The complainant also advised that Gwara was claiming that he was going to injure or kill himself. Northfield Police requested back up and was assisted by Montpelier Police and Berlin Police. Gwara was taken into custody after he resisted and struggled with police. Gwara was transported to the Central Vermont Hospital where he was examined and treated for glass in his hands and head and multiple cuts and lacerations that he inflicted upon himself. Gwara was seen by Washington County Mental Health and was then transported to St. Johnsbury Correctional for protective custody. Gwara was issued a citation to appear in the Washington county District Court on 9- 2-10 at 12:00 pm to answer the charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and for violations of conditions of release.
8:57 a.m. - Citizen Dispute - CW called in reference to a 12 year old female living in the on KT Lane. CW advised that this 12 year old girl has been busting up other children’s toys. Cw advised that the POI has been bulling his daughter and just wants this stuff to stop. Officer attempted to find the young offender and warn her of destroying other children's property.
11:20 a.m. - Animal Problem - An officer took a report concerning a dog bite on the Clark Road. A smaller dog of the two bit him on his lower left leg leaving 3 puncture wounds. The dog owner was contacted, as well as the Health Officer. The victim received medical care. An up to date rabies certificate was provided.
11:56 a.m. - MV Complaint - An officer was requested to respond to the area of Spring Street and South Main Street for a dog that had been hit by a car and is now dead. A young child had been walking the dog on a leash and the dog got away, ran into the traffic and was struck.
3:12 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer responded to a local restaurant because the caller reported rude and racial remarks were being made. The officer spoke to the offended party and then with the two subjects. The would be customers apologized and left the store.
July 31
2:41 a.m. - DUI - Hendrich Carrasco, age 22, of Northfield Vermont was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Carrasco was stopped after police observed that he had a head light out. While speaking with Carrasco, police observed a moderate odor of intoxicants emitting from the operator and the rest of the passengers in the vehicle. Carrasco admitted to consuming alcohol and he did poorly on his sobriety exercises. Carrasco had a preliminary BAC of .108% at 02:40 hours. Carrasco was taken into custody and was transported back to the Northfield Police Department for processing. At 03:20 hours, Carrasco had an evidentiary test of .083%. Carrasco was issued a citation to appear in the Washington County District Court on 8-19-10 to answer the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Carrasco received a written warning for the head light out. Two underage passengers in the vehicle received Washington County Teen Alcohol Safety Paperwork for consuming alcohol as minors.
4:39 p.m. - Safety Hazard - A concerned citizen called the department concerning several youths swimming in the river by the Guest House on North Main Street. The caller was concerned about them swimming, particularly about the current coming from the river. The officer spoke with the youths sitting on a large rock and urged them to be careful swimming in the river and advised them that people were concerned about their safety.
August 1
4:14 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - The department was advised of a verbal fight that may escalate. The officer responded to the resident and the situation was resolved.
9:23 p.m. - Unlawful Mischief - An officer was advised by a caller that he was traveling down (east) on Union Brook Road, when he saw someone lob a rock up onto the road, which struck the windshield of his vehicle, causing the windshield to spider web. The officer met with the complainant and observed the windshield to be spider webbed. The estimated the cost to replace the windshield at approximately $300.00.
10:52 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded to a residence in Berlin to assist an Officer of the Berlin Police Department at the scene of a reported family fight. Upon arrival I assisted at the scene briefly, and then cleared.
August 2
8:34 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer met with a shop owner on Depot Square. Apparently sometime over the weekend unknown individuals attempted to break into the shop. Evidence was collected and under investigation.
11:35 a.m. - Theft - An officer responded to a report of a theft. The complainant advised that someone had moved his cash register and a quantity of money was missing. Under investigation.
3 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen of Union Brook reported that she had loaned a fan to a neighbor who was now refusing to return it. The neighbor was contacted by the officer and the dispute property discussed.
4:57 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The department was contacted by a renter that had been away from the apartment for a period of time due to unexpected circumstances. Upon their return the apartment had been rented to someone else and the property was gone. Under investigation.
5:41 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A citizen called in reference to an ongoing dispute with a neighbor. The officer is investigating.
10:38 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment – An officer was advised of an harassing phone call complaint. The caller was receiving text messages on the phone from an ex-boyfriend. The officer met with the complainant. Based on the information provided by the complainant, no crime has occurred according to Disorderly Conduct by use of Electronic Means. However, the officer will call the offender and advise him of the complaint and warn him about the statue.
11:47 p.m. - Accident PD - An officer was dispatched to the report of a single vehicle rollover crash on Chamberlin Road. Dispatch advised there were no injuries. After an investigation, it was determined that the operator had lost control of the vehicle when the front passenger tire struck the culvert and/or a rock, and the vehicle overturned. Tickets were issued.
11:52 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The department received a call from a citizen of Water Street. The complainant had an unwanted guest in his home. The officer respond to the scene and the intruder had left. Under investigation.
August 3
8:21 a.m. - Burglary - An officer took a report concerning a Burglary on Depot Square. The owner of the business was missing money from a cash bag as well as from the register. Under investigation.
1):32 a.m. - Burglary - A business on East Street reported an attempted burglary. The officer observed marks to the door and lock area of the entrance. Under investigation.
11:27 a.m. - Burglary - The owner of another business on Depot Square called to report missing money. Under investigation.
