John Andrew Starr, 90, NU Class of 1941
John Andrew Starr, 90, 227 Royce Road, died August 11, 2010 at his home in Northfield after a period of failing health. He was born on October 19, 1919 in Malone, NY, the son of Andrew and Sabina (Fitzpatrick) Starr. He graduated from Norwich University in Northfield with a BS degree in electrical engineering. On March 8, 1944 he and Frederica Kelley were married in Montpelier. He was employed at Westinghouse Corporation for 36 years and had resided in Buffalo, NY, Charlotte, NC and Malvern, PA. Following retirement 33 years ago, Mr. Starr and his wife moved to Northfield.
Mr. Starr had been a member of the Kiwanis Club while in Buffalo. He had also served as a Boy Scout Master and was a member of the Professional Engineer Society. In Northfield he was a member of the Northfield Rotary Club, the Conversational Club, had served on the board of the Senior Citizen Center and served as Class Agent for the Norwich University Class of 1941.
Surviving are his wife, Frederica Kelley Starr of Northfield, a son, John T. Starr and his wife, Deborah of Conroe, TX, his sister, Margaret Starr Lockwood of Lakeside Park, Kentucky, 7 grandchildren, Kelley Thompson, Deborah Simmons, John Kobe, Bill Kobe, Drew Starr, Adam Starr and Brett Starr, 6 great grandchildren, Kobe Thompson, A. J. Thompson, Lauryn Simmons, Jake Simmons, Caroline Kobe and Clinton Kobe, a nephew, Jon K. Hutchins and his wife, Linda of E. Montpelier, a neice, Starr Lockwood, Lakesikde Park, Kentucky and a special cousin, Henry Maloney, McDonald, GA. A daughter, Lynne Starr Kobe predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at the White Chapel at Norwich on August 19 at 1 p.m.
