Simone Doyon, 92, Raised Large Northfield Family

NORTHFIELD FALLS – Simone Doyon, 92, died peacefully with family by her side at the Woodridge Nursing Home on Sunday, August 1, 2010. She had been a resident at Woodridge for the past three years.

She was born in St Juste, Quebec on April 30, 1918, daughter of Josaphat Poulin and Marie-Anna Boutin. She attended school at the Presentation of Mary in Stanhope, Quebec. Upon completion of school, she worked as a bookkeeper for her father’s lumber business in New Hampshire, where she met her husband. On May 6, 1936 she married Davila Doyon in Hanover, NH. They were married for 61 years; he died on February 20, 1998.

In 1940, the family moved to the farm at the end of Doyon Rd. in Northfield. Simone kept very busy raising a large family, caring for her parents and working on the family-run dairy farm and maple sugaring business. Simone made sure that the Doyon farm was a place where anyone was welcome. The farm was always buzzing from the sound of visiting family and friends, foster children, and strays of both the animal and human kind. Simone enjoyed music, playing cards and family gatherings. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Northfield.

Survivors include two daughters, Bella T. Preedom and Claire L. Doyon and her partner, Beecher Eurich, of Waterbury Center; three sons, Leo Doyon of Traveler’s Rest, SC; Robert J. Doyon and his wife, Evelyn, of Northfield; and Donald O. Doyon and his wife Rhonda of Northfield Falls; one sister-in-law, Theresa Prescott of CT; 18 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Davila Doyon; two sons, Roger and Marcel and his wife Evelyn; a daughter, Cecile Doyon; a daughter-in-law, Sally Doyon; a son-in-law, Vernon Preedom; two foster children Tommy and Julia Durkin; three brothers and one sister.

Calling hours will be held Thursday evening, August 19th from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Kingston Funeral Home on Slate Avenue in Northfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 20th at 11:00am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Vine St. in Northfield with burial following the service in Calvary Cemetery.

The family requests in lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Woodridge Nursing Home Activity Fund, PO Box 550, Barre VT 05641 or to St. John the Evangelist Church, 206 Vine Street, Northfield VT 05663. Arrangements are under Kingston’s Funeral Home in Northfield.
