Northfield Police Report

August 4

12:33 p.m. - Phone Problem /Harassment - An officer spoke with a complainant regarding unwanted phone calls and text messages from two females. The officer made contact with both subjects and advised them to stop calling and texting.

5:28 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - An officer responded to a reported fight outside of the Conv. Plus, for a report of two females fighting in the parking lot, subjects were gone upon arrival.

5:44 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Dispatch advised the officer a report of unauthorized shooting on private property. The officers attempted to call back the complainant but no contact was made as the phone was busy. Patrolled the area.

August 5

3:39 a.m. - Unsecure Premise - An officer located an open door on the back side of a Depot Square Building. I entered the premises, performed a building sweep and secured the door when I left. No further action taken.

7:41 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - The department was advised of vandalism on VT RT 12A. Someone had driven on the grass and destroyed the property. The officers responded and are investigating.

2:51 p.m. - Animal Problem - Officers received a report of an animal problem on Winch Hill Road. Officers spoke with the owners of the animals about the complaints and gave verbal warning in reference to the animal ordinance.

3:48 p.m. - Assault - The department was advised of an assault victim at Central Vermont Hospital. The officers responded and spoke with the complainant. Under investigation.

11:31 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - A complaint was made about a loud bang on Central Street. when we arrived the Fire Department was already on scene. Spoke to a citizen who said that he heard a loud bang and saw a flash that looke like it came from Main street. Officers patrolled the area but could not find a reason for the noise.

11:49 p.m. - Assault - A complainant advised that she and her boyfriend were fighting. The officers arrived to find the complainant sitting outside in a vehicle. Statements and photographs were taken.

August 6

10:25 a.m. - Unlawful Mischief - The department took a report of someone attempting to enter a storage area. The complainant had not been to the area for a few days thus unknown when someone had attempted to enter. The lock had been damaged, but nothing reported missing.

11:22 a.m.. - Trespassing - Officers responded to the sand pit in the Falls by the softball field and spoke to several young juveniles who were on top of one of the sand piles. Information from one of the highways department employees advised that the kids have been told not to be playing on the sand piles. The concern was based upon trucks making deliveries of sand and the danger of one of

these children getting hurt.

1:38 p.m. - Theft - An officer received a report of another business on East Street that had been entered and items were missing. The officers responded and gathered evidence.

2:40 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - The department received a complaint of suspicious activity on King Street. The caller requested the officer to view a broken light. Officer responded and took a statement.

3:51 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A citizen of Northfield came to the police department to voice a concern about a dog on Pleasant Street. The complainant thought the animal maybe sick. The officer responded to the area to observe the dog and talk with the owner.

7:08 p.m. - MV Complaint - An officer responded to Union Street for a complaint of damage to a parked motor vehicle. The complainant advised that a male youth ran into her parked car with his bike causing approximately $900.00 in damages to the vehicle. Several witnesses observed the incident and the youth reported the incident to the property owner.

7:42 p.m. - Citizen Assist - A motorist called to complain of a hitchhiker throwing things at vehicles that wouldn't stop to pick him up. An officer responded and spoke with the individual, who had mental health issues. The male was driven to his sister's house in Montpelier because of the danger to the individual and motorists. No further action necessary.

August 7

10:21 a.m. - Accident PD - The department was dispatched to a reported single car crash on Vine Street near Pearl Street. The officer arrived to find a vehicle on the front lawn of a residence. The operator had driven over the sidewalk when she accelerated instead of applying the brake at the intersection. There were no injuries requiring medical attention, but the vehicle sustained significant damage. Crash Report completed.

11:07 a.m. - Animal Problem - An officer received a report of an animal problem on VT Route 12N. The caller advised that while walking their dog on a leash a dog at a resident had began barking and charged towards his dog. When the dog charged, it snapped the chain that it was hooked to, crossed the road, and began to fight with his dog. Both dog owners broke up the fight. The caller's dog had a minor injury that did not require a vet's attention.

4:35 p.m. - MV Complaint - An officer responded to VT RT 12N in the Northfield Falls area, for a report of a possible intoxicated driver. I was told that the vehicle was last seen on Cox Brook Road. The truck reportedly swerved towards a woman pushing a stroller and was blaring loud music. The officer attempted find the vehicle, but was unsuccessful.

8:37 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – A citizen of Northfield Falls requested a Notice Against Trespass. The subject receiving the notice had made verbal threats to family members and to destroy their property. Notice was served and on file.

August 8

12:40 a.m. - Unsecure Premise - While performing a property check at a local business the officer located an unlocked door and open window. The officer performed a building sweep and secured the door and window before exiting. A business card was left with a note advising them that he had been in the building.

4:09 p.m. - Custodial Dispute - A complainant came to the police department regarding an ongoing custodial dispute. She had arrived earlier at the residence to take custody of her daughter, and the father was not willing to release the child to her mother. This incident is under review for violation of a Family Court Order.

August 9

1:02 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer received a call from dispatch advising the complainant was requesting an investigation regarding an incident involving her son. They were at Central VT Hospital and her son had been injured in an unknown incident. The officer responded to the hospital and took a statement from the male. Under investigation.

12:01 p.m. - Citizen Dispute - A property manager contacted the police regarding a dispute between two residences. When the manager had tried to meet with one of the residents, the rentor became aggressive and verbal. The manager requested

that the incident be recorded.

1:40 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer received a report of suspicious circumstances on North Main Street. The owner of the property showed the officer evidence of people on the property and requested more patrols in the area.

1:55 p.m. - MV Complaint - The department responded to Depot Square for a report of a motor vehicle complaint. Reportedly a parked and unoccupied vehicle had rolled out of parking spot, striking another parked and unoccupied vehicle behind it. The officer located both vehicles as reported. Both owners were located and information was exchanged.

4:48 p.m. - Parking Problem - An officer responded to Freeman Road for a report of a parking problem. The complaint was that a car was parked on Freeman Road near the Golf Course and that it was a traffic hazard. The officer responded and located the unoccupied vehicle parked completely off the roadway. The officer observed that two cars could safely pass upon the roadway, and this vehicle was not a hindrance to the regular flow of traffic.

10:31 a.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer took a complainant regarding property that she needed to have returned to her. The item had been left in a store and returned to the wrong person. After contacting this person, the item was restored to its rightful owner.

11:29 a.m. - Theft - A vehicle owner advised the department that the inspection sticker had been removed from her windshield. Her unlocked vehicle had been recently inspected and now was missing a new blue 8. The officer responded to her residence and took a report. Please remember to lock your homes and vehicles.

12:30 p.m. - Animal Problem - The department responded to a report of a noise complaint. The complainant advised that a dog had been barking for a long period of time. The officers responded to the area but were unable to locate the offending canine.

1:38 p.m. - MV Complaint - An 0operator of a vehicle came to the Northfield Police Department to report a collision that had occurred on South Main Street in front of the Northfield Savings Bank. Both operators had left the scene of the collision after exchanging information with the other operator. The incident is on file.
