Photo by Charlene McCarney The Northfield Area Summer Lunch Program has completed its sixth year of eight weekly deliveries of healthy breakfast and lunch supplies to area families.

This year the program served 49 families in Northfield, Roxbury, and West Berlin. That is roughly five times the number of families and children served six years ago.

Volunteers from eight churches participated in packing and delivering them: the United Church, New Life Community church, St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Northfield Bible Fellowship, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, St. Jacob’s Orthodox Church, the United Methodist Church, and Grace Evangelical Church.

Financial support for the program came from CERV, Wal- Mart, Ben and Jerry’s Foundation, the Vermont Campaign to End Childhood Hunger, The Ladies Reading Circle, the Vermont Conference of the United Church of Christ, St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, United Methodist Church, MacKenzie Memorial Church, and private donations.

The Vermont Foodbank made it possible for the program to purchase healthy foods at minimal cost and the Northfield Town School District generously allows the program to operate out of the kitchen at Comiskey School.

The Steering Committee for the Northfield Area Summer Lunch Program wishes to thank all contributors and participants for their support.

Anyone wishing to support Northfield Area Summer Lunch by making a financial donation should send it to Mary Denny, 19 Overlook Drive, Northfield, VT 05663 Attention: Summer Lunch Project
