Edward Leon Wheeler, 72, Worked at Nantana, Cetrangolo’s
Edward Leon Wheeler, 72, died Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. He was born in Calais on May 28, 1938, the son of Leon Edward & Blanche Emma (Pilbin) Wheeler. He attended Calais schools.
He had been married to Margaret M. Meiggs.
Edward worked for the Nantanna Woolen Mill in Northfield, until it closed in the 1970’s. He then went to work for Cetrangolo Finishing Works in Northfield, where he was employed for 16 years, retiring in 1994 due to health issues.
He was a member of the Steel Workers Union. He enjoyed playing bingo, the lottery games, hunting, fishing, watching the squirrels in his yard and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed frequently using his, as he called it,“free” Vermont fishing license.
He is survived by four children, Penny Day and her husband, Brian of Northfield, Rose Wheeler and her companion, Larry Barclay of Roxbury, Sandra Fraser and her husband, John of Northfield, Edward A. Wheeler and his wife Robin of Northfield; 8 grandchildren, Nikki Hebert, Joshua Barclay, Courtney Wheeler, Dylan Wheeler, Bailey Wheeler, Margaret Daniels, Colby Cooke, Stephanie Cooke; and 3 great grandchildren; and a few nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his granddaughter, Pamela Wheeler; two sisters, Florence Dickinson and Frieda Hood.
A memorial service was celebrated on September 3 at the Kingston Funeral Home, 35 Slate Avenue in Northfield, followed by burial in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
