VERMONT PUBLIC TELEVISION PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS FOR NOV. 27 TO DEC. 3

Nov. 27: Sunday at 7 p.m., “Ed Sullivan’s Rock and Roll Classics — The ‘60s” presents some of the amazing acts Sullivan introduced to North America on his TV show — from The Beatles to the Rolling Stones to The Doors. It also airs Monday at 9 p.m. At 9 p.m. on “Masterpiece Contemporary: Framed,” an eccentric Welsh village learns that The National Gallery is storing its art collection in a nearby mine during renovations — leading to curious encounters between the locals and the gallery’s curator.

Nov. 28: Monday on VPT World, between 2 and 10 p.m., viewers can enjoy three classic “Nature” specials — “A Murder of Crows,” “Birds of the Gods” and “American Eagle.” The complete schedule is at vpt.org. At 7 p.m. on the VPT main channel, “Magic Moments - The Best of ‘50s Pop” features The McGuire Sisters, The Lennon Sisters, The Chordettes, The Four Aces and more.

Nov. 29: Tuesday at 8 p.m., the series “Ground War” continues, focusing on the ways armies have used or modified the terrain of the battlefield to their advantage. At 9 p.m., “Hockey: More Than a Game” airs on VPT. It’s an insightful, intimate look at the game described as “Canada’s gift to the world.”

Nov. 30: Wednesday at 7 p.m., VPT encores a perennial viewer favorite. “Alone in the Wilderness” documents the story of Dick Proenneke, who built a cabin in the Alaska wilderness and lived a self-sufficient life for 30 years. At 8:30 p.m. on “Alone in the Wilderness, Part 2,” a new sequel continues the story of Dick Proenneke’s sojourn in the Alaskan wilderness. With his 16mm wind-up camera, Proenneke documented stunning scenery, wildlife, his craftsmanship and even a visit from his brother. At 10 p.m., “ Out in America“ features stories from urban and rural America told through the lens of LGBT figures.

Dec. 1: Thursday at 8 p.m. on “Report From Washington,” U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., joins VPT for a live call-in show during which viewers can ask him questions on the issues of the day. Mark Johnson hosts. Viewers can call during the show or email connect@vpt.org.

Dec. 2: Friday at 9 p.m., the PBS Arts Fall Festival continues with “Great Performances: Andrea Bocelli Live in Central Park.” The superstar tenor performs with the New York Philharmonic. Joining him are~Celine Dion, Tony Bennett, Bryn~Terfel and other singers and instrumentalists.

Dec. 3: Saturday at 8 p.m. on “60s Pop, Rock & Soul,” Peter Noone and Davy Jones host a new special that features stars of the AM radio era, including Paul Revere & The Raiders, Gary Lewis & The Playboys, The Kingsmen, The Ventures, Question Mark & The Mysterians and Jefferson Starship. At 10 p.m., “Buddy Holly: Listen To Me” is a concert from September 2011 on what would have been the rock legend’s 75th birthday. Three generations of performers, including Michelle Branch, Shawn Colvin, Chris Isaak, Lyle Lovett, Graham Nash, Stevie Nicks, Phil Everly, James Burton, Albert Lee, Keith Richards, Ringo Starr, Jackson Browne and Brian Wilson pay tribute at this extraordinary event.
