Norma Jane Burness, 75, worked at Nantanna

Norma Jane Burnell, 75, died Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Garden Room at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. She was born in Braintree on July 12, 1936, the daughter of Rufus & Minnie (Drown) Colgan. She is a graduate of Northfield High School, class of 1955.

She had been married to Jessie Spaulding and Clarence Burnell.

She had worked many years for the Nantanna Woolen Mill in Northfield and Waterbury Plastics in Randolph, retiring from there in the late 1990’s after 30 years of service.

She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary in Northfield, where she had held many leadership positions over the years. She enjoyed knitting, crochet, quilting, reading and making many other crafts for various causes and exhibits in the area.

Survivors include four children, Ronald Spaulding of Northfield, Donald Spaulding of Northfield Falls, Karen Spaulding of Northfield, Bernard Spaulding of Hawaii; one brother, Ernest “Jake” Colgan of Barre; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by four siblings, Barbara Sanders, Bernard Colgan, Floyd Colgan and Leon “Red” Colgan.

A funeeral was held at Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield 19. Burial will take at a later date in Mount Hope Cemetery in Northfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
