Silk Road Duo To Appear at the Chandler February 16
Silk Road Duo Qiu Xia He and Andre Thibault of The Silk Road Duo present China Speaks Your Language, an adventurous encounter of musical traditions at Chandler Music Hall in Randolph in a program for school children and the public Thursday February 16 at 9:30 AM.
Recent research suggests that the Chinese explorers of the 15th century voyaged not only to India and Africa, but also around the world to the Americas. Whether true or not, this interesting theory has inspired a worldwide journey of musical exploration by The Silk Road Duo.
China Speaks Your Language is a music performance that will introduce audience members to different cultures through the experience, discoveries, and travels of the Silk Road Duo. The pipa – a Chinese lute – will be surrounded with many world instruments, such as the flamenco guitar from Spain, and the oud, bouzouki, and lutes from the Middle East and Greece. Percussion instruments include pandeiro and sourdo from Brazil; musical bow and mbira from Africa; bendir from Morocco; kanjira tambourine and shanaii from India; gongs and wood percussions from Asia; and hulusi and bawu flutes from China’s Yunnan province. A study guide is available.
Tickets for the hour-long program are $6. Reservations can be made by contacting Betsy Cantlin, Chandler’s Community Outreach Manager, at 802-4310- 0204 or outreach@ chandler- arts.org
