Northfield Girls Get Soccer Honors

The Northfield Girls’ soccer team had four players recognized for their efforts this past season. The Lady Marauders placed one player on the Capital Division First Team and three players on The Capital Division Second Team. Northfield High Girl’s Head Coach John Diebold provided a synopsis of each player’s efforts.

“Mehgan McMullen - Mehgan was selected for First Team of the Capital Division and selected for the All-State DIII team. Being selected for the First Team of the Capital Division, Mehgan had the opportunity to play in the Senior Classic and try out for the Lion’s Cup. The Lion’s Cup is a match between the top soccer players of Vermont and New Hampshire. Mehgan has been a starter all four years and 3 of those years she was a team captain. Mehgan anchored the defense this year as sweeper. The most notable of Mehgan’s talents is her leadership ability. Mehgan’s work ethic and her inclusive personality were a very positive influence on the members of the team.


Northfield Senior Meghan McMullen(left in White) was named to The Capital Division First team and Played in the Senior classic. Lady Marauder Junior Darby Smith (Right, #13) was recognized for her efforts by being named to the Capital Division Second team. Hillary Amell - Hillary was selected for the Second Team of the Capital Division. Hillary saw regular playing time as a freshmen and was a starter for the past two seasons. Hillary played many positions, but was primarily an outside marking back and was one of the captains this past season.

DJ Doney -. DJ was selected for the Second Team of the Capital Division. DJ saw regular playing time as a freshmen and was a starter for the past two seasons. DJ played stopper and was one of our central midfielders with a never say die attitude. DJ was a team captain this past season.

Darby Smith - Darby was selected for the Second Team of the Capital Division. Darby saw regular playing time as a freshmen and was a starter for the past two seasons. Darby was one of our central midfielders and a solid defender. On defense Darby’s playing time included taking on the responsibilities of sweeper.”



Girls coach John Diebold had high praise for all of the girls who received honors. Northfield Juniors D.J. Doney (left) and Hillary Amell (right) were named to the Capital Division All Star second team this season. Both Girls have been varsity players since they were freshmen.
