Photo by Bill Croney, The Northfield News Pearl Weggler, a 2012 graduate of Northfield Middle and High School, is currently a freshman center on the roster of the Simon’s Rock Llamas—the women’s varsity basketball team of Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Mass. On Sunday December 2, Simon’s Rock traveled to Landmark College in Putney,Vt., with it’s men’s and women’s basketball squads. As the Simon’s Rock men’s team did not have enough players to field a fivesome, Weggler filled in, playing the entire two halves of the women’s game followed by the entire two halves of the men’s games, for a total of 80 minutes on the court. Weggler turned in the highest score of the afternoon for both of her teams, scoring 26 points in the women’s 48-34 victory, followed by 18 points in the men’s 60-40 loss. Her father and her 84- year-old grandmother were in the stands to witness her feat. Pearl credits her NMHS coaches for her capacity to fight through the fatigue. “When I felt myself getting tired I would think about Shep and Pam and everything they taught us about finding your inner strength,” Weggler said. Weggler has been averaging more than 20 ppg for the Lady Llamas this season.
