Police Report

February 27

7:52 a.m. - Citizen Assist - An officer assisted a citizen to retrieve property pursuant a family court order. The officer was to be present during the property exchange. Service provided.

1:26 p.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer responded with the Northfield Fire Department personnel for a report of activated, audible alarms. Upon arrival, the alarms had been silenced and there was no emergency. Nothing further.

February 28

4:30 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police received a walk-in complaint of domestic violence. Although the victim had visible minor injuries, the victim was uncooperative in providing police with a name of the assailant, location of assault, or any other information other than the victim requested transport to the hospital. Victim was transported to CVH and then the Salvation Army in Barre. Nothing Further.

6:43 a.m. - Noise Disturbance - Police responded to a noise complain due to a loud television set. Owner was not home. Police did make contact with the owner later in the day who advised police she keeps it down low and has it on for her dog who is home alone. Subject advised she would get with the landlord and see what they can do to solve this problem.

8:37 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police are investigating a situation in the Falls, that involved a vehicle getting keyed while it was parked at their residence.

1:59 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance - Police were notified of a potential identity theft of a village resident. An officer responded and found that it involved a tax return, and the IRS will be investigating. Nothing further.

3 p.m. - Animal Problem - Police did a follow-up concerning a dog, that involved a typed note received in the mail stating a certain subject was not taking care of his dog and needed medical care. Police responded to the location and after speaking with the owner and viewing the dogs determined the dogs were well cared for and in no need of medical attention.

March 1

10:23 a.m. - Accident PD - Police were contacted after a snow plow hit a vehicle buried in the snow. It appears that the vehicle had been abandoned and attempts to contact the owner are being made.

10:38 a.m. - Citizen Assist - Northfield police were called to stand by at the town office building for a potentially disruptive person. All remained calm, no service needed.

11:40 a.m. - Agency Assistance - Police are assisting an out of state agency with an investigation.

5:48 p.m. - Agency Assistance - Police assisted an out of state agency locate several missing juveniles. The juveniles were located and released to Vermont DCF Social Workers based upon a Vermont Emergency Custody Order issued by the Court.

11:59 p.m. - Accident PD - The department received a report that a vehicle had collided with a tree on Cox Brook Road. Under investigation.

March 2

10:05 a.m. - Animal Problem - Police took a complaint concerning several dogs running at large. The owner of the dogs was advised to keep the dogs under control.

11:08 a.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer received a report of a possible violation of an Adult Protection Order. The officer is investigating.

12:26 p.m. - Suspicious Person/ Circumstance – An officer responded for a report of suspicious activity. An employee called to report an individual repeatedly entering and departing the store. I was in the area and arrived within seconds of the call. I located the individual and spoke with him about his actions that was making the employee and customers nervous. He was waiting for a friend and was just trying to keep warm. He understood their concerns. Nothing further.

6:41 p.m. - Parking Problem - While on patrol an officer came across a vehicle parked on South Street that is currently on the tow list for unpaid parking violations. While waiting for a tow truck, the owner came out and drove away with the vehicle. The officer made him aware of his unpaid tickets.

10:39 p.m. - MV Complaint - The department was advised of a vehicle crash on Vine Street. The operator had left the scene. The officers did locate the operator and the crash is under investigation.

March 3

2:40 a.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer was contacted by dispatch to respond to a residence in Northfield Falls, VT to assist in gaining access to a residence for the ambulance service. The officer was canceled prior to arrival.

2:47 a.m. - Parking Problem - An officer observed a vehicle parked on East Street in Northfield, VT in violation of winter ban parking. Due to the weather the vehicle was removed by a local tow agency to clear the roads for road crews.

4:28 p.m. - Welfare/Suicide Check - An officer responded for a welfare check. An employee of Washington County Mental Health had reported receiving a phone call from a parent of a client that was yelling and screaming. The parent was concerned for the safety of the family. Upon arrival I spoke with the parents and then with the adult child who had stopped yelling prior to my arrival. I advised

WCMH of the situation and options were discussed.

March 4

1:17 a.m. - Agency Assistance - An officer was requested to assist Vermont State Police in Williamstown, VT with a barricaded subject with a knife. The subject was talked down and transported to Central Vermont Medical Center for care.

3:25 a.m. - Animal Problem - An officer received a complaint of an animal problem on Vine Street in Northfield, VT concerning a rooster. On speaking with the owner they advised they would make arrangements to find a new home for the animal in the next couple of days.

9:12 a.m. - Accident PD - An officer responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash. The caller advised that an unknown, unidentified vehicle had struck his parked vehicle, damaging his drivers side mirror. After returning to the office I received a call from the operator of the unidentified vehicle. His mirror was also damaged. The information was exchanged and the operators were able to file with their respective insurance companies.

3:31 p.m. - Parking Problem - An officer towed a motor vehicle with multiple unpaid parking tickets.

4:45 p.m. - Juvenile Problem - An officer responded to an ongoing call that came into dispatch of an active domestic assault.

4:56 p.m. - Burglary - Northfield police responded to a home break in town. A list of stolen items was collected, along with evidence. The investigation is continuing.

5:26 p.m. - MV Complaint - The department was contacted about a motor vehicle that speeds and drives erratic. The officers took the information and attempted to located.

6:12 p.m. - Burglary - Northfield Police received a burglary complaint within the Village. Under Investigation.
